The Throne of God

There are only a handful of times when we are given a picture of the throne of God. Even though no man can see the Lord and survive the experience, God allowed a few men to see representations of His awesome glory. In Isaiah 6, the prophet is one of the few who was able to observe the glory of God! How indescribable this certainly was! Yet Isaiah describes the heavenly vision to us.
Even though King Uzziah had died, the Lord God was still “sitting on a throne, high and lifted up.” His robe was so great and filled the temple that not even the seraphim surrounding Him were worthy to touch the floor. The seraphim covered their faces so they would not see the glory and also covered their feet so their lowest parts would not be seen by God--both representing humility before the King. They cried out praises to God that even shook the temple. What a sight Isaiah was blessed to behold!
But this vision would have meant nothing if Isaiah simply said, “That was so cool!” and went on with his day. Instead, he cries out in sorrow recognizing his sin. After seeing the Judge, sin became much more evident. When the Lord calls Isaiah to preach, Isaiah begs God to send him. Israel would not listen, yet Isaiah was eager to go.
We also have an opportunity to see the King! Maybe not physically, but God sent the gospel through His Son – “the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.” (Hebrews 1:3) When we behold God’s glory in the person of Jesus, how could we not be changed? It moved Isaiah to action. Has it moved you?
